Cangold Limited (CLD: TSX-V) is a Canadian company focused on gold and copper exploration in Mexico because of the immense discovery opportunities and its rich history of hosting many world class ore deposits. With this direction in mind Cangold purchased a substantial geological database for northern Mexico. This area contains Mexico's largest gold mine, La Herradura, a 150,000 ounce/year open pit mine in Sonora State owned by Newmont and Peņoles, and giant porphyry copper deposits such as the Cananea Mine (2004 production of 213,000 tonnes of copper), being developed by Grupo Mexico (IMMSA).
Cangold's management has extensive experience in Mexico and has quickly targeted areas of major interest. The Plomo property was obtained in 2007 and initial work returned very favorable results. A 2008 drill program will now be the next exploration phase. The second project called Los Venados is a 3,200 hectare project adjacent to the Mulatos Mine of Alamos Gold Inc., in south eastern Sonora State. A chip and grab sampling of silica vein material on the Duraznito Zone resulted in 20 of 35 samples returning significant gold values greater than 0.1 g/t, nine of the 20 assaying greater than 1.0 g/t and one sample assaying 50.9 g/t gold.
Cangold has been aggressive in pursuing advanced stage exploration projects with the potential to be brought to production in a short period of time as well as earlier stage projects that have the potential for a major discovery.
